Beting

The Beting is the name given to a short, strong post on the upper deck of a sailing ship , which reaches down to the next deck, sometimes into the bilge. Betinge have different functions:

Anchor lines are used to hold heavy anchor cables . Masts were behind the masts and were often connected by a crossbeam, the so-called patience . Mastbetinge were used to lighter rope, especially peppers , using Scheibengatts to lead and to the Betingköpfen or proof nails to attach to the patient.
