The Kirchheim depot (operating point designation FKHM ) is a depot of the high-speed line Hanover – Würzburg in the area of the East Hessian community of Kirchheim .
One of the first electronic signal boxes in Germany is located on the station premises . It controls the train station, the two neighboring depots and the route in between with a total length of around 60 km.
Location and structure
The depot is one of the most complex on the new line. In addition to the two continuous main tracks, there are two opposite overtaking tracks in the direction of Fulda and in the direction of Kassel. There are also four side tracks on the east side of the station. To the north and south of the passing tracks are track changes with four points each.
The structure lies between two tunnels in the forest. The Schickeberg Tunnel connects to the north and the Krämerskuppetunnel to the south of the train station.
history
In the planning and construction phase, the station was part of planning section 15 in the middle section of the new line. It was originally called the Kirchheim Nord overhaul station.
During the construction phase, local politicians repeatedly suggested building a freight transshipment point between road and rail at the station. Proposals from local politics to expand the station into a passenger station were rejected by the Deutsche Bundesbahn.
business
In 1992, around 60 to 80 freight trains passed the station every night (between 11:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.).
There is a wind warning system on the site. If the wind speed is more than 72 km / h, some freight trains have to drive more slowly (status: 1992).
