The Speising depot of Wiener Linien , the city 's own transport company , is located at Hetzendorfer Strasse 188 in the Speising part of the 13th district, Hietzing . The administrative and residential buildings of the depot are under monument protection .

history

The depot in Speising was built from 1912 to 1915 according to the plans of the architects Ferdinand Rakuschan, Julius Joly and Othmar Tichy. At the fence around the station there is a memorial for employees who were murdered during the National Socialist dictatorship: the memorial for the Hietzingen streetcarers beheaded by the Nazi regime .

From 2004 to 2014, after museum vehicles had already been parked here and used for special trips from here in the previous decades, historical tram vehicles from the Association of Railway Friends (VEF) and the Vienna Tramway Museum were in the depot: They were moved to the Vienna Tramway Museum Museum Depot Traiskirchen moved. The depots were thus cleared for the stationing of Ultra Low Floor vehicles (ULF).

Memorial to the victims of fascism 1938–1945

The three-storey administration building shows itself in the front of Hetzendorfer Straße as a large, castle-like, symmetrical complex in the home style . The spatially staggered facade with a polygonal central front has strongly protruding side risalites . At the main portal and on the entrance and staircase axes there is figural and vegetable artificial stone decor on the facade. A single-storey floor and an open round salettl are integrated into the street-side property fence . A memorial for victims of fascism 1938–1945 was added to the enclosure (see above).

To the north of the administration building there are flat-roofed coach houses, some of which were subsequently reinforced with concrete structures.
