Betty Jo Christian

Betty Jo Christian , née Wiest (born July 27, 1936 in Temple, Texas ) is an American lawyer and attorney. From 1976 to 1979 she was a member of the Interstate Commerce Commission.

Life

Betty Jo Christian studied at the University of Texas from 1953 to 1957 and received her bachelor's degree with summa cum laude . This was followed by a degree in LL.B. at the same university in the School of Law until 1960 .

After graduation, she worked from June to September 1960 for the law firm Powell, Rauhut, McGinniss, Reavley and Lockridge in Austin, Texas . This was followed by a position in the office of the Chief Justice of Texas Robert W. Calvert until March 1961 .

From April 1961, she worked in Washington DC. Until June 1971, she was an appeal lawyer with the Interstate Commerce Commission , interrupted from November 1968 to November 1970 by her work as an appeal lawyer for the Department of Labor in Dallas.

From June 1971, she served as an appeal legal advisor with the Interstate Commerce Commission. On December 5, 1975, she was nominated as a Democrat by President Gerald Ford to replace Willard Deason's seat on the Interstate Commerce Commission for the remainder of the term ending December 31, 1979. On April 7, 1976, she took her oath of office. She refused a re-nomination. The vacant seat was deleted on January 1, 1983.

She has been with the law firm Steptoe & Johnson since January 1980 . She specializes in traffic law. Her clients include the major Class 1 railroad companies in the USA.

She has been married to the lawyer Ernest S. Christian since 1960. In addition to working as a lawyer, she and her husband run a farm in Maryland.
