Beyond Good and Evil 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an upcoming Action - Adventure - Computer game of the French company Ubisoft . It is developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and published by Ubisoft. The game is a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil , released in 2003 . There was long speculation in social networks and media about a continuation of the game until it was officially announced in advance at E3 2017.

Gameplay

Beyond Good and Evil 2 takes place a few generations before the first part, Beyond Good and Evil . The game is supposed to be a much more traditional role-playing game than the first part. At the beginning of the game, players have the opportunity to “start at the bottom of the social system”. It is also possible to determine whether the character is male or female. As the player completes missions and assignments, the player's skills improve. He also receives a spaceship and crew members, which he can improve over time. Players can visit other planets, which have their own societies, to take on assignments there and thus expand their technical knowledge, which enables the improvement of the spaceship. Game Director Michel Ancel announced that there were narrative sequences both for the given story and for the decisions made by the player himself.

The game will be playable in single player mode and as a co-op player . Even in single player mode, the player finds himself in a universe shared with other players, in which events happen that affect all players.

development

The original game Beyond Good and Evil , released in 2003, was considered a success by the critics; an own fan group was created. Commercially, it has been labeled a definite failure. Michael Ancel, director of the game, explained that his vision / idea that the game should depict a universe was too big for only one part. Ancel wanted to make it the first part of a trilogy, but the parent company and publisher Ubisoft saw no reason for a sequel due to the financial failure.

Speculation about a sequel began around 2007 when Ancel stated in a Nintendo Power interview that he was working on a new project that meant a lot to him. He tries to involve Jade, a character in the game Beyond Good and Evil, in the new project without changing her personality. In another interview in 2008 he told the French magazine Jeuxvideo.fr that the pre-production of a second part of Beyond Good and Evil had already started a year ago, but a continuation of the production has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft. In the same month, as part of the “Ubidays” event, a trailer published by Ubisoft using music from the first part was shown. The characters Jade and Pey'j, who appeared in the first part, were also shown. Ubisoft announced that the trailer was created exclusively with the game engine .

A second, leaked trailer appeared in May 2009. This showed the character Jade running through a crowded street. It has been confirmed that the trailer was an Ancel's work. However, Ubisoft denied having deliberately released the trailer. Until 2016, the status of the game's development was unclear as Ubisoft and Ancel made conflicting statements. While Ancel and Ubisoft announced several times that the development of the game was still going on, speculation spread that Ubisoft had stopped development of the game for the time being, Ancel had left Ubisoft Montpellier and others. In the same year, Ancel assured that the game was still in development, production only had to be temporarily frozen from 2013 to 2016 in order to produce the game Rayman Legends . According to Ancel, the production of Rayman Legends even technically helped the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil.

In 2016, when it was still unknown that Beyond Good and Evil 2 would be the sequel to the first part, Ancel posted several pictures about a game on the social networks that showed the younger Pey'j. This confirmed for the fan base that this was the second part. Only a short time later, the publisher Ubisoft confirmed these rumors with the official announcement of Beyond Good and Evil 2. During the Ubisoft conference at E3 2017, the first new trailer of the game was presented. The platforms on which the game will be playable have not yet been officially announced. The "Space Monkey Program" lists the platforms Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . However, Ancel described this as a bug (technical error) and stated that the game was developed for many platforms.

As CEO of Ubisoft , Yves Guillemot stated that Beyond Good and Evil 2 was designed more for the new generation of gamers. Thus, one wants to avoid another commercial failure. One of the main elements of the game should be the possibility to visit other planets. To make this possible, Ancel and the Ubisoft Montpellier team had been working on a solar system tool for three years before the new trailer was released. This special tool uses a combination of graphical elements and a generator that assigns this element to the respective planet. Work on the core part of the tool was completed shortly before E3 2017. Ancel said the rest of the work would only start after that.

music

Composer Christophe Héral , who composed the music for the original game, will do the same for the second part.
