District Hospital (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district hospital in Germany is often a specialist hospital for psychiatry , psychotherapy , psychosomatic medicine and neurology . In some areas it also acts as a teaching hospital (e.g. in Upper Bavaria for the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich ). However, there are also district hospitals with a different focus.

The district hospital usually provides psychiatric care for the region. Often there are specializations in the areas of addiction , geriatric psychiatry and forensic psychiatry . In addition, within the general psychiatric departments, special stations are available for crisis intervention and for the treatment of depression , double diagnoses , personality disorders and psychosomatic illnesses.

In the GDR , district hospitals were clinics providing specialist care and were mainly located in the 14 district cities . In Berlin, the Berlin-Buch Clinic , as the largest hospital in the GDR, had the status of a district hospital.
