District Hospital Lienz

The General Public District Hospital Lienz is a hospital in the district capital Lienz . It has its roots in the former Bürgerspital and was opened in 1931 on Emanuel-von-Hibler-Straße.

history

After the citizen's hospital , which is now used as the federal upper level secondary school in Lienz , proved to be no longer expandable in the interwar period, the mayors' conference of the Lienz district passed the resolution on March 26, 1926 to ask the Tyrolean state government for the legal regulations for the new construction of the hospital. In addition, a committee was formed to follow up on the new construction of the hospital. Three quarters of the funding came from the federal government and the state of Tyrol, and the East Tyrolean municipalities took over a quarter. The fields east of the Moarhof were selected as the construction site, although the site was still in the Patriasdorf community at that time . The architect Hans Menardi , who also took over the top construction management, was commissioned with the planning . After the official groundbreaking on May 27, 1929, the main and auxiliary buildings and a villa for the primary school were built by 1931 . After the completion of the work in September 1931, the official opening of the hospital took place on September 8th in the presence of Federal President Wilhelm Miklas . The move from the citizen hospital was carried out on December 16.

After opening, the hospital had a total of 144 beds. After the National Socialists came to power, the hospital was named "Lienz District Hospital". As a result of the Second World War , 30 beds were made available to the Wehrmacht as "Partial Hospital C" on March 31, 1941.

Between 1955 and 1958, the district hospital was expanded to include an infection house according to plans by Rudolf Furtschegger and Hans Buchrainer. In 1958/59 the nursing school followed according to plans by Buchrainer and Otto Gruber. The nursing school had become necessary in order to support the Sisters of Mercy who were active in nursing through secular staff.

In 1964/65 the hospital was expanded by the architect Rudolf Stotter to include a weekly ward with an ENT department. The last expansion of the hospital took place in 1966, when a doctor's and nurses' house was built, and between 1989 and 2001, when further extensions were built by the Scherzer-Thielmann-Griessmann architects and the chapel was redesigned.

building

The main building of the district hospital is an elongated, four-story core building with a hipped gable roof and an asymmetrical entrance project , in which the chapel was also housed. Today's entrance area is in a modern extension, and there are also several additions adapted to the old building.

The house chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was rebuilt in 2000 and rededicated on May 1st, 2001. It is oriented to the north and extends over two storeys, with the apse consisting of a glass tubular steel construction.

Economic data

In 2005, the Lienz district hospital had 361 beds, with 17,766 inpatients this year. The bed occupancy reached a value of 78%. In 2005 the hospital had a total of 585 employees, including 100 doctors and 284 people in the nursing service. In addition, there were 87 students at the nursing school. The operating expenses amounted to around 38 million euros.
