Beznau is a district of Döttingen in the Swiss canton of Aargau . The name also identifies an artificial island on the Aare with a nuclear power plant , a hydropower plant and a Swissgrid (380/220 kV) and Axpo (50 kV) substation . There was also the Beznau gas turbine power plant from 1948 , but it is no longer in operation. There were plans for the construction of a new nuclear power plant, Block III, which were not pursued after the Fukushima nuclear disaster .
Before the construction of the power plants and historically, Beznau was a good agricultural area and was used accordingly.
