Chompa
The Chompa [ ˈtʃom.pa ] is a long-sleeved sweater with a round neckline, which is particularly worn by the indigenous people in the Andean highlands of Bolivia , Ecuador and Peru . In Peruvian Spanish, chompa is the general word for “sweater”, in Ecuador it is mostly used to describe jackets .
The Chompa des Evo Morales
The Chompa gained international attention in 2005/2006 as the trademark of Evo Morales , the first indigenous president of Bolivia. Disregarding all protocol regulations, Morales wears his chompa even on highly official occasions, such as visiting foreign heads of state. The chompa that Evo Morales wears on these occasions traditionally consists of a noble mix of vicuna and alpaca wool and has the value of a noble suit.
