Biagio Rossetti

Biagio Rossetti (* 1447 ; † 1516 ) was an Italian architect and town planner. Rossetti was the court architect of Ercole I. d'Este in Ferrara .

From 1490 Rossetti planned the expansion and fortification of Ferrara . For the first time in Europe, wide and straight streets were built here - in a medieval town center. The expansion of the city center designed by him is considered the first modern urban planning in the world. The historic city center of Ferrara was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1997 .

Biago Rossetti was also the architect of many other notable palazzi and churches.
