Wolfgang Muchitsch

Wolfgang Muchitsch (born October 25, 1963 in Graz ) is an Austrian museum director .

Life

After studying history, English and American studies in Graz, Wolfgang Muchitsch worked as a university teacher and scientific project manager in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Vienna. From 1992 to 1995 he was a member of the staff unit for planning and organizational development at the University of Graz , and from 1995 he was entrusted with the affairs of the cultural administration of Styria in the office of the first deputy governor.

From January 1, 2003, together with Peter Pakesch, he was managing director of the Universalmuseum Joanneum and, in this role, as director of this oldest public museum, he was responsible for all scientific matters as well as for all collections and the entire infrastructure of the Joanneum. From September 2015 to December 2017 he was the sole managing director of Universalmuseum Joanneum GmbH. Since January 2018 he has been the scientific director.

Wolfgang Muchitsch has been on the board of the Austrian Museum Association since 2003 and has been President of the Austrian Museum Association since 2012. In addition, he is also President of the Association of Folklore (= supporting organization of the Austrian Museum of Folklore), Chairman of the Board of the Austrian Sculpture Park Foundation, deputy. Chairman of the MuseumsverbundbetriebsgesmbH Leoben, board member of the Graduate Association of the University of Graz and board member of the Steirische Eisenstrasse Association, the International City Forum Graz and the Styrian Student Economic Aid.
