Karl Stocker (cultural scientist)

Karl Stocker (* 1956 ) is an Austrian historian , cultural scientist , exhibition curator and institute director at the FH Joanneum .

Life

Stocker studied history and European ethnology at the Karl Franzens University in Graz and received his doctorate in 1981, followed by his habilitation in 1988. Since 1984 he has been a lecturer at various Austrian and international universities. At the Karl Franzens University in Graz he teaches at the Institute for History. In 1990 he founded the Bisdato ° exhibition agency. He has been teaching at the FH Joanneum since 2000. In 2017 he was awarded the title of University Professor by the Karl Franzens University of Graz .

In addition to his university activities, he gives lectures at home and abroad on design, exhibition design and UNESCO Cities of Design . Karl Stocker is ambassador for the UNESCO City of Design Graz.

Exhibitions and museums

Since 1994 Stocker has directed numerous exhibition and museum projects. Such as B. at the Styrian state exhibition "Pilgrimage" (1994), the Styrian state exhibition "Verkehr" (1999), the "Mountain of Memories" for Graz as European Capital of Culture (2003), "Absolutely free. The Woodstock effect" for the State Museum Joanneum ( 2009) and "Regensburg World Heritage Visitor Center" (2011) and the permanent exhibition and visitor center of the Southern Styria Nature Park (2019).
