Biblioteca Pública Episcopal de Barcelona
The Biblioteca Pública Episcopal de Barcelona (BPEB) (English: Public Episcopal Library of Barcelona ) is a library located in the building of the Seminario Conciliar de Barcelona (English: Seminary of Barcelona).
The BPEB was founded in 1772 and is the city's oldest surviving public library. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Barcelona , is part of the Ramon Llull University library system and works with the Catalog of the Bibliographic Heritage of Catalonia.
Duration
The library holdings include around 360,000 volumes, mainly on theology , religious studies and the humanities . This includes a collection of 95 incunabula and 625 manuscripts . Some of them are written in Arabic , the oldest being written in the 14th century. The collection of around 10,000 goigs from the 17th century to the present is of outstanding importance . Goigs are joyous poems and songs of popular piety in which Our Lady and the saints are celebrated.
