Library of Adolf Brehm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Adolf Brehm Library is the collection of books, documents, historical furniture and antiques that emerged from the private library of the Swiss Adolf Brehm (* 1927 ) and was established in 1990 as a foundation in Bad Arolsen in cooperation with the Waldeck-Frankenberg district .

The main focus of the collection are the printed works from 1456 onwards, which are essential for the past and present of the German cultural area. The inventory is given as 40,000 books from the end of the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

The importance of the foundation lies not only in its existence and work for the cultural location Waldeck , but also in the fact that it represents a type of publicly accessible private collection, which is rather rare in Germany .

The library is located in the west wing of Arolsen Castle. In the same building is the historically grown Fürstlich Waldeckische Hofbibliothek .
