Library of the Law Faculty of the University of Zurich
The library of the Law Faculty of the University of Zurich was opened in November 2004 after a 15-year project and construction phase. The construction was realized by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in the unused inner courtyard of a building constructed in 1908, which was given two additional floors on the sides facing away from the streets. It is characterized by a large dome over the now covered 30 meter high atrium. Calatrava's extension cannot be seen from the street. The historic building planned by the cantonal master builder Hermann Fiertz now houses the law faculty of the University of Zurich. In 2003 the library was awarded the European Steel Prize.
As freehand - and reference library configured collection includes approximately 200,000 books and 700 magazines and rows. 500 reading and workplaces are spread over six floors.
