The library of the German Study Center in Venice is located in Venice in the San Polo sestiere (San Polo, 2765 / A). It has been a specialist library for the German Study Center in Venice since 1972 and is located in the piano nobile of the Palazzo Barbarigo della Terrazza . The main focus of the library, which is spread over two halls, is on the one hand the history and culture of Venice and the Venetian colonies as well as its external relations from late antiquity to the present. On the other hand, the house collects publications on the history of German-Italian relations. In addition, there are works by the scholarship holders that were largely created in-house or revised there. The last expansion was completed in 2016.

The inventory of the facility, which acts exclusively as a reference library , comprises more than 13,000 volumes. Although the library is a facility for institute members, it is also open to interested parties in consultation with the librarian. The holdings are not available for interlibrary loan .

The collections also include bequests such as those of the art historian Jürgen Julier , who was a scholarship holder at the German Study Center from 1973 to 1976 and who later became director of the State Palace Administration in Berlin. He researched the Venetian architecture of the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially the Molino Stucky , but also worked on the Squero di San Trovaso, where the last gondolas are built to this day , the Fontego dei Turchi or the city's iron bridges. In 1994 his widow Karla Julier bequeathed the materials relating to Venice to the German Study Center.
