The library of the Hanover regional church office is the library of the Hanover regional church office and the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover . Together with the regional church archive , it forms section 14 of department 1 in the regional church office. It is located in the Fürstenhof in the street Rote Reihe in Hanover . The library's holdings include around 150,000 volumes and 440 current journals . The library is a special library for the theology and church.

history

The library emerged from the libraries of the consistory in Hanover , which was dissolved in 1636, the state consistory of Hanover founded in 1866 and the consistory in Osnabrück and Stade, which were repealed in 1885 and 1903, respectively . In 1924 the Hanover regional church office was formed and the book collections were brought together and placed in the regional church office. The first user regulations were drawn up in 1929 and the library was made accessible to interested users. In 1943 a large part of the stock was burned in a bomb attack. The library has been housed in the Fürstenhof Hannover since 1958, and the building is connected to the service building of the regional church office via a corridor. In 2003 the library was renovated and expanded.

The library is publicly accessible to anyone interested without a usage fee. Borrowing works with the shared user card of the Hannoversche Online Library System (HOBSY). The library has an online catalog system (OPAC) and a card catalog for old holdings.

Focus of the collection

The focus of the library collection is on the topics of theology and church practice, canon law , church history and church art history. The library also houses special collections of Bibles , literature on the church struggle , theological controversial literature of the 17th and 18th centuries and the library of the senior consistorial councilor Heinrich Philipp Sextro .
