The Bichelsee lies on the border between the cantons of Zurich and Thurgau in the area of the municipalities of Turbenthal and Bichelsee-Balterswil in Switzerland. Two thirds of the lake are located in the Thurgau canton area.

The rather shallow natural pond is at an altitude of 590 m above sea level. M. It is fed by several small streams and drained by the Seebach. The 9.7 hectare lake is around 500 meters long, 400 meters wide and 7 meters deep. The hilly area around the lake , formed by the various ice ages , contains peat and belongs to the so-called pine cone land in Hinterthurgau .
On the west side of the lake there is a lido with a kiosk. Rowing boats can also be rented there. Bathing in the lake is only permitted within the lido.
The hamlet of Seelmatten is located around 300 meters from the shore in the Zurich area . The hamlet of Niederhofen on the east side is a little further away. It is around one and a half kilometers to Bichelsee and around five kilometers to Turbenthal.
reachability
The region around the Bichelsee is well served by roads. Parking spaces are available for motor vehicles at the lido. Visitors arriving by public transport can take the post bus from Turbenthal to the Strandbad Bichelsee station.
