Biennale Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea
The Biennale Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea or Florence Biennale has been a biennial art fair in Florence since 1997 .
Conception
The Biennale takes place in the historic Fortezza da Basso building , which has been expanded as an exhibition center. Mainly works by contemporary artists who are invited worldwide or who apply themselves are shown. The curating jury Arte Studio selects a mostly well-known artist in advance who will be honored at the Biennale. For example, Christo and Jeanne-Claude received the Career Award in 2005 .
criticism
It is often criticized that the design and the similarity of the name to the Biennale di Venezia suggests that it is an art exhibition . It tries to disguise the fact that it is a commercial art fair for which a participant has to pay. Participants report a lack of visitors and excessive prices.
