Beer ball

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beer ball

A beer ball is a glass drinking vessel for beer . The shape corresponds to a sphere in the lower area and continues upwards in the shape of a tulip . The beer ball is provided with a stem and a foot. The content, marked with a calibration line , is normally 0.33 l. There are also larger beer balls. Some beer balls have a gold border, others have the brand emblem of a brewery . Beer balls used to be widespread in the Dortmund area and were used by the Dortmunder Union and Dortmunder Actien Bräu breweries for export .

Whoever orders “a ball” in the restaurant expresses that he would like to have 0.33 l of beer in a beer ball and not in any other vessel.

The beer ball as a typical beer glass of the Ruhr area also functions as a trademark of the WDR - cabaret show Stratmanns .
