The Biesdorfer Bahnhofsgaststätte was built as part of the connection between the Berlin district of Biesdorf and the Prussian Eastern Railway and was operated as a restaurant until 2015.

Since the 19th century

The exact construction date of the restaurant is unknown. On a map from 1893, however, a building is already shown that is very likely to be the Freihof restaurant .

The station area Biesdorfhöhe developed at that time as a district of Biesdorf (since 1906: Biesdorf-Nord). In this context, the restaurant was expanded for the first time in 1904: the south-west side received a hall extension, which led to the L-shape of the floor plan. The forms of use of the restaurant also expanded. The hall was not only used for dance events and music performances, but also served as a sales and exhibition area.

In a newspaper note from the Niederbarnimer Kreisblatt dated September 29, 1909, the first fruit and horticultural exhibition of the Biesdorf-Nord horticultural association was reported in the restaurant area. Furthermore, sales negotiations for the parceling of Biesdorf-Nord took place in the restaurant.

At the end of the 1940s, the restaurant received another extension, which in the 21st century will be used as an apartment independent of the restaurant business.

demolition

The Paule restaurant has been run in the tradition of a typical old Berlin pub since 2011 . It is part of a larger property that Grotjan und Partner, Bonus Immobilien- Betriebs- und Verwaltungs GmbH had acquired from Deutsche Bahn AG. Next to it was an allotment garden colony that has since been demolished. In a newspaper article in the Berliner Woche on July 8, 2015, it was announced that the "Restaurant Paule" will close in September 2015. The half-timbered building of the restaurant of the oldest restaurant in operation in Biesdorf was to give way to a small-scale shop because the owner and the district office could not agree and the monument protection was not recognized.

The district office was also not prepared to save the building at least in the short term by buying it. In a public inquiry in the BVV on November 19, 2015, such a rescue was rejected by the district. The opposition had no objections to this in the BVV. Biesdorf citizens organized a collection of signatures in January and February 2016, which was still going on at the time of the demolition. On February 19, 2016, despite the knowledge that signatures had been successfully collected and despite repeated protests from numerous citizens, the excavator was set against the historical main part (built before 1893) at around 9:50 a.m.

Reactions from local politics to the demolition

In the district conference organized by the CDU Biesdorf on February 29, 2016 in the hospital church in Wuhlgarten , city councilor Christian Gräff was asked why the city development office and especially he as city council refused to buy the restaurant and why it makes sense to him that the new operator of the Schlosses Biesdorf is supported annually by the district with 500,000 euros, but such an amount was not made available once for the restaurant. This amount would probably have been enough for the purchase and renovation of the restaurant and a continuation, e.g. B. made economically viable as a cultural restaurant without additional costs for the district.

The answer was in terms of content (memory protocol): “That one can have different opinions about the restaurant and that he has a different opinion than the person asking the question. So there are z. B. older women who need shorter shopping trips, and 500,000 euros is still a lot of money that should be better used for kindergartens and schools. "

The District Assembly of Marzahn-Hellersdorf decided on July 14, 2016: “It is recommended that the District Office, in coordination with the Heimatverein Marzahn-Hellersdorf e. V., to suggest to the owner or investor of the area under construction on the corner of Oberfeldstrasse and Kulmseestrasse an appropriate reminder of the historic restaurant 'Paule' and its importance for the development of Biesdorf on the new property to be built. Instead of the restaurant, a new building was built, which offers space for two smaller commercial facilities. The garden of the restaurant was integrated into the newly built parking lot behind it. In the winter of 2016/2017, two catering operators moved into the commercial facilities. One of the facilities has a small beer garden terrace.
