Bifrost ( at. Bifrost , fluctuating Himmelstraße '), Bilröst , Beberast or Asbru (at. Asbru , Asenbrücke') is in the Norse mythology , the three-rayed rainbow bridge between Midgard and Asgard and thus the connection between the "earthly world" and the " Kingdom of Heaven «.

The Asenbrücke is according to the Grímnismál (verse 44) the first of all bridges and is supported by Asen -God HEIMDALL guarded. The sir use them to get from Asgard to Midgard and to their daily meetings at the Urdwell .

The Snorra-Edda also says that a red fire is burning on the bridge to keep the Hrimthursen (ice giants) and mountain giants from crossing.

During the end of the world in Ragnarök , Bifröst will be destroyed by the Muspelsons when crossing it: “ But as strong as it is, it will break when Muspel's sons come to ride over it. "

Modern use

The Bitfrost security system of the 100 dollar laptop was named after Bifröst .
