The company, based in Tartu , Estonia, has grown into one of the most profitable banks in the Baltic region since it was founded in 1992 . With an equity ratio of 21.2 percent, the big bank posted a profit of 7.03 million euros in the 2012 financial year . It has branch networks in Estonia, Latvia , Lithuania , Finland , Spain and Sweden . In Germany , Austria and the Netherlands it operates as a pure online bank . In Germany and Austria, the big bank as an online bank only offers fixed-term deposits. It has been on the market in Germany since August 2009 and in Austria since February 2010. As a cross-border credit institution, the big bank is registered with the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). In 1992, today's big bank began operations and opened its first representative office in Tartu, Estonia. A year later, the first offices were opened in Tallinn and Pärnu . In 1996 the bank founded a subsidiary in Latvia. In 1997, the company started using the BIG brand, which stands for "Balti Investeeringute Grupp" (Baltic Investment Company). In 2004, BIG applied for a license as a credit institution and listed bonds on the Tallinn Stock Exchange for the first time. In the following year, BIG received its license to operate as a credit institution and has been operating as a bank in Estonia since September 28, 2005. The company has since been called Balti Investeeringute Grupi Pank AS. BIG has been offering fixed-term deposit contracts on the Estonian market since 2006. A year later, a new branch of BIG was opened in Lithuania; it was the first corporate unit to operate under the current name of Bigbank. BIG organized the first international bond issue and listed the bonds on the Stockholm Stock Exchange . In the following year, the bank, which had previously operated under the BIG brand, was uniformly renamed Bigbank. After Estonia and Lithuania, the big bank also opened a bank branch in Latvia, and in Finland it offers savings accounts online. In her home country Estonia, she also started cooperation with the Post. The big bank became active in Germany in August 2009 and in Austria in February 2010. The first Finnish branch opened in November 2009, and consumer loans will also be available in Finland from March 2010.
