Bijoy Jain
Bijoy Jain (* 1965 ) is an Indian architect and designer from Mumbai .
biography
Bijoy Jain grew up in Mumbai. He studied architecture at Washington University in St. Louis and graduated in 1990 with a master's degree. After completing his studies, he worked in Los Angeles and London from 1989 to 1995, including with the American architect Richard Meier . In 1995 Jain returned to India, where he founded the “Studio Mumbai Architects” in 2005, which is based in Alibag on the Konkan Coast south of Mumbai.
Conception
He criticizes the construction boom in the Indian metropolises as “photocopy design”. A people-friendly infrastructure is the goal of Jain. Jain takes into account the “ genius loci ” that is to be found and taken into account with the locals. The Indian landscape, local resources and materials play a key role in his projects. Local artisans and builders are involved in the planning and construction process.
Prizes and awards
- In 2009 the Palmyra House in Nandgaon , India, was nominated for the Aga Khan Foundation's Architecture Prize .
- 2009 Prize for Sustainable Architecture (Global Award for Sustainable Architecture).
