Nandgaon was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Chhattisgarh . Its capital was the place Rajnandgaon . The original manor district was founded by a celibate itinerant preacher (Mahant) at the end of the 18th century and passed on from teacher to student for a long time. In 1865, Nandgaon was recognized by the British as a hereditary princely state. Mahant Balram Das (1883–97) received the personal title Raja Bahadur in 1893 .

1892–94 Nandgaon had a state post with its own postage stamps . In 1935 it had an area of 2255 km² and 182,000 inhabitants.

Nandgaon joined the Eastern States Union in August 1947 . On January 1, 1948, this union was dissolved and Nandgaon was incorporated into Madhya Pradesh and thus India . On November 1, 1956, all princely states were dissolved.
