Bildstein in the Hørdum Kirke
The picture stone in Hørdum Kirke is a picture stone in Hørdum in Thy in Denmark . It is the only picture stone in Denmark with a representation of the Hymiskviða from Norse mythology . The stone was found in 1954 as a step in the church of Hørdum.
The stone shows only a rough incision. Pictured is Thor's fish haul - with the detail that Thor stepped through the bottom of the boat.
Other representations of the myth
A plate from Gosforth in England shows the motif more precisely, where the cattle skull can be seen as bait. The rune stone from Altuna ( Uppland ) shows the trodden ground in the boat. The fish haul is also shown in the stone Ardre VIII ( Gotland ). It is unclear whether the rock carving from Kville (Sweden) showing two anglers in the boat represents Thor's fishing move.
