Educational companion is a job within the framework of vocational training measures (BvB), which are offered nationwide by providers of vocational training in cooperation with the employment agency .

The educational supervisor is responsible for implementing the qualification planning during the vocational training measures. It forms an interface between the professional counseling counselor and the employees involved in the qualification process in the institution or in the internship companies. He “plans, promotes / guarantees, organizes, coordinates, accompanies and documents continuously individual qualification processes across different learning locations as well as educational, assistance and support offers”. The aim is to prepare the participant individually for their later professional career. This can mean a mediation in:
- work subject to social insurance
- Vocational training (full training, shortened full training or theory-reduced training)
- further school offers
- a social or ecological year
- further qualification measures of the employment agency
He works according to the specialist concept of the employment agency. From 2001 to 2004, the concept was scientifically supported by the Institute for Vocational Training, Labor Market and Social Policy INBAS , tested in 24 model regions and implemented nationwide since 2004. In 2009 the technical concept was fundamentally reformed.
The main focus of the activity of an educational supervisor is the support in attaining the qualification for training and the professional orientation of the participants. To this end, he works in particular with target agreements in qualification planning on the basis of the competencies of the individual participant, which are deepened at the beginning of the measure and then continuously determined. Successful communication in the team ( trainers , teachers , social pedagogues and other staff, such as psychologists and curative pedagogues ) and with external partners (e.g. vocational school teachers , contact persons in internship companies, advice centers) is important. In addition, he acquires internship, training and work positions and documents the course of the measures and the success of the integration.
A personal union with other functions within the BvB is excluded for the educational supervisor. The personnel key for educational support in vocational training measures is 1:28. In rehabilitation-specific measures it is 1: 24.
requirements
A professional qualification or a degree and at least three years of professional experience are required to work as an educational supervisor. It is expected that at least one year of experience in the professional and social integration of the target group and one year of operational experience have been gained. In addition, knowledge of the educational landscape and the requirements in the professions and on the training and labor market are required.
In addition, the tasks of the educational supervisor require communication skills, social and organizational skills.
