The St. Hippolyt Education Center is located at Eybnerstrasse 5 in the state capital St. Pölten in Lower Austria . The educational center named after Saint Hippolytus of Rome is a Roman Catholic educational institution of the diocese of St. Pölten .

In 1957 the diocese acquired the site of the former Schreckmühle on the so-called Mühlbach. In 1959/1961 an educational center was built according to the plans of the architect Julius Eberhardt . The initiative for the construction came about under Bishop Michael Memelauer , who died on the day the chapel was opened and consecrated on September 30, 1961. Coadjutor Franz Žak , who took over the succession with the right of succession on that day, carried out his first official act with the opening and consecration. In 1981 the chapel was redesigned with the painter Rudolf Kolbitsch . In 1986 the so-called Sonnenhaus was converted into a guest house. In 1990/1992, according to the plans of the architect Wolfgang Pfoser, the educational center was expanded with an extension with further conference rooms and guest rooms and an underground car park. On September 30, 1992, the expansion was blessed and opened by Bishop Kurt Krenn . In 1999 the retreat wing was redesigned, in 2004 the kitchen and dining room. In 2018, the entrance area was designed more openly according to the plans of the architects Markus Schuster and Andreas Votzi and blessed and opened by Bishop Alois Schwarz on September 28th .

The multi-wing, three to four-storey complex shows a large, glazed corner solution facing Klostergasse.

chapel

Initially, the chapel was a simple room with an altar made of black marble, a cross, and a Gothic Madonna, created around 1440, which was transferred here from the Harmannstein branch church .

The chapel was redesigned with Rudolf Kolbitsch in 1981, the portal door shows the flight to Egypt with a steel etching , the panel on the altar wall shows Jesus on the cross, the panel on the entrance wall shows Creation, the right glass window shows the resurrection of Christ , the left glass window The Annunciation , the free-standing tabernacle stele shows the Lamb of God and the book with the seven seals.

József Viktorián Pituk (1981) painted the picture with a Christmas scene as a charcoal graphic in the pronunciation room. The figure in the lost wax process St. Hippolyt in the anteroom of the chapel was created by Friedrich Seitz (1985). Karl Abraham Selig (1999) created an icon Nativity for the Christmas season .

The two-manual organ with a mechanical grinding box and seven registers was built by Herbert Gollini (1972). The organ, ordered for the Bildungshaus, was initially placed in the chapel in the Melk Episcopal Seminary . In 2010 the organ was transferred here.

  • In 1962 the Hippolythaus joined the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Bildungshäuser Österreich .
  • In 1963 there were 166 courses - 62 of them in-house - with 3853 visitors.
  • In 2016, 1,386 courses - 364 of which were in-house - took place with 33,571 visitors.
  • Since it was founded, three to four exhibitions with artists on socio-political and religious topics have been shown annually in the exhibition area on the ground floor. Since 2006 there has also been an annual exhibition on the theme of Our Saints .
