Bill Drayton

Bill Drayton (William Drayton) (* 1943 in New York City ) is a social entrepreneur .

Life

Drayton attended the Phillips Academy . He graduated from Harvard University (BA 1965). He then studied economics at Balliol College of Oxford University (MA 1967) and Law at the Yale Law School (JD 1970).

From 1970 he worked for McKinsey & Company for almost ten years . He then moved to the National Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He has been visiting professor at Harvard University and Stanford University . Drayton is the founder and current chairman of Ashoka , a non-profit organization that aims to find and promote socially minded entrepreneurs worldwide. He is also the chairman of Community Greens and Get America Working! .

Awards

In 2005, Drayton was named one of America's 25 Best Leaders by US News & World Report . In 2011 he received the Prince of Asturias Prize in the International Cooperation category . In 2013 he was awarded the Planetary Award from the future initiative Design me a Planet and the Institute for Future Competencies. He has also been an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1996 and of the American Philosophical Society since 2019 .
