Bill Maddox

William Leslie "Bill" Maddox (* 15. February 1953 in Abilene , Texas ; † 27. December 2010 in Austin , Texas) was an American jazz-rock - drummer , guitarist and singer .

biography

Bill Maddox began his professional career as a musician when he founded the fusion band The Electromagnets in Austin with keyboardist Stephen Barber in the early 1970s , to which guitarist Eric Johnson soon joined. The formation was stylistically based on Jeff Beck , Return to Forever , the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report . In 1975 the band released their debut album.

In 1977 he released the album Project Terror under his own name on EG Records . In the following years Maddox took part in recordings in other band projects by Johnson, such as the Eric Johnson Group , Alien Love Child and Omar and the Howlers . In addition, he later worked as a singer and songwriter. In 2006 he played in the rock band Grady, but left the following year for health reasons. He was shot and killed in a burglary at the end of 2010 under previously unexplained circumstances.
