Bill Mlkvy (born January 19, 1931 in Palmerton , Pennsylvania ) is a retired American basketball player for the Philadelphia Warriors in the National Basketball Association .

Because of his unusual last name and his membership in the "Owls" of the Temple Owls basketball team at Temple University , the nickname of the 1.95 m tall winger was "The Owl without a Vowel" (the owl without a vowel).

In addition to basketball, the player known as "The Owl without a Vowel" also trained as a dentist . In 1971 he was inducted into the Temple University Hall of Fame for his services.

Mlkvy was drafted in 1952 by the local Philadelphia Warriors as a "local player" (territorial pick). He ended his only NBA season with a rather disappointing 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and then moved to the US Army. He achieved the position of major and went into the dentist business after his army career. Mlkvy worked as a dentist where he lived in Newtown, Pennsylvania, and then founded Billing Solutions Inc., a company specializing in financial accounting for the dental industry. Today he has three branches.
