Bill Woods

Bill Woods (born May 24, 1924 in Dennison , Texas , † April 30, 2000 ) was an American country and rockabilly musician and producer .

Life

Beginnings

Bill Woods, who played piano and steel guitar , started his career as a background musician for country stars like Bob Wills , Tommy Duncan and Jimmie Davis . He also had his own band, the Orange Blossom Bloys , with which he accompanied other artists on recordings.

Career

In the early 1950s, Woods and his band played nightly at the Blackboard Club in Bakersfield , California , one of the birthplaces of the Bakersfield Sound . One of the later great exponents of this style, Buck Owens , was an early member of the Orange Blossom Boys. After appearing on the radio station KBIS, Woods played his first record Bop / Go Crazy Baby on Fire Records . He was also a member of the television program The Trading Post Show . Woods was also a frequent guest on many different broadcasters in and around Bakersfield.

In the 1960s, Woods switched full-time from musician to producer and looked after stars like Joe Maphis and the up-and-coming Merle Haggard , with whom he went on tour in 1972 and 1973.
