The Billionth Barrel Monument is a monument in Seria , Brunei .

history

The monument was erected in 1991 and inaugurated by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on July 18, 1991. It commemorates the production of the billionth barrel of oil that was produced in the Seria oil field. The monument was designed by a local architect.

On a raised square, which is surrounded by suggested city walls, rise 5 black tubes that form an arch construction that is crowned by a gold-plated coat of arms. The five pipes are reminiscent of the five pillars of Islam and the floor tiles are also designed according to Islamic models. The coat of arms consists of two raised hands on the side and a phoenix rising from a crescent moon.

location

The memorial is near the first oil well (S-1) of Seria Field on Seria Beach. The well was opened by Brunei Shell Petroleum in 1929. The original spring is 38 m away and is only marked by a rusted steel beam.
