Billy Bizor

Billy Bizor (born September 3, 1913 in Centerville , Texas , † April 4, 1969 in Houston , Texas) was an American blues singer and blues harp player. He is considered a representative of the Texas Blues and was musically closely associated with the blues singer Lightnin 'Hopkins .

Life and music

Billy Bizor was born in Centerville , as was his alleged cousin Lightnin 'Hopkins . In contrast to this, however, he was not a professional musician. His earliest recordings are from the early 1960s, when he was the accompanist for Hopkins. These recordings were produced by Prestige Records for the then flourishing folk market. The sporadic collaboration with Hopkins brought Bizor only modest success: He appeared together with Hopkins in the documentary film Les Blank The Blues According To Lightning Hopkins and made his only solo recordings for the one in Houston, Texas during the same period in 1968/69 resident record producer Roy Ames. Before these recordings were published under the title Blowing my Blues away , Bizor died of the effects of dropsy . During these sessions, Billy Bizor et al. a. accompanied by Lightnin 'Hopkins, Donald Dunn and Clarence Holliman.
