Billy Pod

Billy Pod (actually Vassilis Podaras ( Greek Βασίλης Ποδαράς ), * 1988 in Athens ) is a Greek musician ( drums , composition ) of modern jazz living in Great Britain .

Live and act

Podaras played the violin while at school; at the age of eleven he started playing the drums. His music studies included six years of classical piano and violin lessons. At the age of 18 he studied at the Jazz Department of the Ionian University in Corfu (city) ; he also attended a course with Ralph Peterson . During this time he played in a trio with Yiannis Papadopoulos (piano) and Ntinos Manos (bass). Five years later he received his Bachelor in Jazz Drumming Performance .

Since 2009 he has worked in the Greek jazz scene and performed at renowned festivals and venues in the country. He has also worked with numerous international jazz musicians, including: Tivon Pennicott , Dean Bowman , Manfred Schoof , Olivier Temime , Olivier Gatto , Laurent Maur , Jean-Loup Longnon , Mikko Innanen and Shachar Elnatan. In 2010 he performed at the International Pori Jazz Festival with the trio George Κontrafouris . That year he toured with the same group in Spain and Finland. In 2012 he took part in the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz Meeting) in Graz. In Greece he participated in the recordings of Dionysis Savvopoulos & Eleni Vitali (Μυστικό Τοπίο, 2016), Gianna Vassiliou and the Stefanos Andreadis Flying Jazz Trio. In 2019 he released his debut album Drums to Heal Society under the pseudonym Billy Pod . At the beginning of 2020 he moved to England.
