Bimini top

As Bimini be open tops of yachts called and boats, with the help of a variable and usually foldable support structure made of aluminum tubes are placed or stainless steel pipes.

Depending on the type of boat, the bimini top has additional guy ropes or straps and, in larger boats, is usually erected on an open bridge ( flying bridge or flybridge ), the outside steering position of the boat. In the case of smaller boats, however, it can also span almost the entire length of the open boat. So the construction is more of a sun sail than a hood in the classic sense. The wind can pass through unhindered, but not the sun.

The namesake are most likely the Bimini islands of the Bahamas group of islands.
