Cake stand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On (sport) sailing ships, the covering of the cockpit with a tarpaulin is called a cake stand . In contrast to the bimini, the cake stand encloses the entire cockpit like a tent and thus also protects against the effects of the wind. This creates an additional space that can be used in different sizes, depending on the size of the ship and the circumstances, and can now be used in a variety of ways, isolated from the outside world. Depending on the version, there are windows as well as entrances and exits (e.g. with zippers).

Movable tubular bows made of aluminum or stainless steel are usually used as the substructure , so that the cake stand ( sprayhood attachment tarpaulin or Kletsche) can be folded aft .
