The Via BINARIO do Porto , also shortened Via BINARIO called, is one of the inner-city main arteries of the Brazilian metropolis of Rio de Janeiro .

The Via BINARIO is a six-lane highway, which since 2013 built on the southern edge of the early 20th century, New Port runs along the former capital of Brazil. It connects the existing highways Linha Vermelha and Avenida Brasil in the west and northwest of Rio and the Rio-Niterói Bridge in the north and leads past the old districts of Rios Santo Christo , Gamboa and Saúde to downtown Rio.

history

The Via BINARIO replaces the native of the 1950s high street Elevado da Perimetral , in turn, already the East-West road Avenida Rodrigues Alves should relieve. The new motorway is expected to accommodate 70% of the Perimetral traffic. Further relief is to be provided by the tram , the VLT do Rio de Janeiro , to be completed for the 2016 Summer Olympics , and by the construction of two more road tunnels.

The function of the first 3.5 km of the new motorway was tested in three test runs. During the first run in October 2013, the function was tested when the Perimetral flyover was partially closed , followed by a test of the traffic control system. The third run took place without any problems, so that the motorway could be opened to traffic on November 2, 2013. The demolition of the sections of the Perimetral elevated road that had been replaced by Via Binariao do Porto began the following day and was completed in April 2014.

Overall port development project

The city of Rio de Janeiro has been redesigning the port area and the adjacent industrial and residential areas for several years. The huge project is called Porto Maravilha . The solution found through the construction of the Binario do Porto motorway should lead to a noticeable improvement in the traffic situation and the associated noise and exhaust emissions in the upgraded parts of the city and in this way make the redesigned quarters more attractive for residents, employees and tourists.
