The EB29 is a self-launching high-performance glider from the manufacturer Binder Motorenbau GmbH for the open class.

history

The EB29 was originally designed as a single-seater and uses the wing of the double-seater EB28 Edition . The first flight took place on September 10, 2009. The EASA type certificate was issued on February 1, 2012. The sister models EB29D and EB29DElektro - the latter is equipped with a powerful electric motor - have a slightly modified fuselage that offers space for a co-pilot. However, the space is limited, so that the designer Walter Binder speaks of a 1.5-seater. The first flight of the EB29DElektro took place in November 2012, the EB29D took off for the first time on May 28, 2013. On July 28, 2014, the EB29D received EASA type certification.

As a further development of the EB29 and EB29D models, a new wing was developed that was first put into operation on March 18, 2016. This wing uses a number of newly developed wing profiles and also contributes to an even sharper design due to its geometrical features. The models equipped with this wing are designated with EB29R or EB29DR. No other glider from series production exceeds the aspect ratio of 52.6 achieved with this. For example, the largest glider Eta flies with an aspect ratio of 51.33 and the one-off Concordia with 57.2.

construction

As a drive for self-launching of the models EB29 and EB29D one is alone motor 2625/2 . The EB29DElektro is equipped with an Emrax UHP LC .

use

At the 2010 World Gliding Championship, pilot Michael Sommer won the Open Class with the EB29 . In 2011 Markus Frank became European Champion with the EB29 and Michael Sommer German Champion. Since then, the EB29 and its modifications have regularly occupied the top positions in international competitions.
