Bindfaden- und Seilfabrik AG

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bindfaden- und Seilfabrik AG was the name of a large processing and export company for hemp products in Hodschag . It existed under this name from 1909 to 1945.

prehistory

The history of this company begins with the establishment of an export business for hemp fibers by Franz and Johann Ertl and Peter Oriolt in Hodschag.

First, failed foundation

Around 1900 Johann Ertl visited a spinning mill in Szeged and was very impressed. Shortly after 1900, he then founded a twine and ropes factory in Hodschag.

The plan was to buy hemp from the farmers directly from the field , following the Hungarian model . This should then be roasted, deforested and processed into yarn and ropes in the factory. For this purpose, land has already been purchased and roasting pits have been created. This first attempt failed because the farmers refused to hand over the processing. It is unclear whether this factory actually went bankrupt. There are also reports of two local hemp factories.

Second successful attempt

A second foundation followed in 1909. Johann Ertl founded a new company called " Bindfaden- und Seilfabrik AG ". This time the first processing by wage workers of the farmers was accepted. This took place in so-called trikel houses .

This company soon developed into the most important of its kind in Southeast Europe . This soon resulted in employment figures beyond 500 employees. Soon workers from neighboring communities and later from Romania had to be recruited, for which extra row apartments were built.

Ertl also built a consumer market, sports facilities and company kindergartens. He also sponsored the OSC Hodschag football club and invested in the local public infrastructure.

In the 1930s, an Austrian chemist was hired to dye the yarns for export.

Operations came to a standstill in 1945 as a result of the war. The Ertl family was expelled. In communist Yugoslavia, the buildings continued to be used primarily for processing jute and sisal .
