Bino (brand name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bino was a brand for liquid condiments , granular broth, stock paste, stock cubes and sauce cubes that were made in the GDR . The name is derived from the place of manufacture Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld-Nord . Therefore the four letters stood for Bi tterfeld- No rd. This branch of production, which was rather untypical for the combine, was a result of the GDR consumer goods program, which tried to provide additional goods for the population by including the capital goods industry.

Bino wort and stock cubes were similarly known in East Germany as, for example, the products from Maggi , which were no longer available after the Second World War and then in the GDR. The external appearance of the brown glass bottle and the yellow-red label were based on the western counterpart. The seasoning consisted of natural raw materials (including slaughterhouse waste) and fat. Waste from PVC production ( igelite ) could be added to this wort until 1952 , when this was banned. Industrially produced soup seasonings were also seen in the GDR as a tasty, inexpensive and time-saving alternative to the conventional preparation of meat and vegetable broths.

Advertising and reception

In the 1960s, the seasoning was advertised with the slogan “Cook with love, season with Bino!” Or “Love goes through the stomach”. Manfred Krug quoted the first slogan in the title song of the film On the Sunny Side .

The name of the Hamburg band Ostzonensuppewürfelmachenkrebs alludes to West German headlines (Bildzeitung: “Ostzone soup cubes bring cancer”) to Bino from 1952.
