The BioEnergie Park Güstrow is the world's largest biogas plant . The plant is operated by NAWARO BioEnergie AG and is located north of the city of Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Plant details

The plant consists of a total of 20 fermenters , each with a capacity of 5,000 t. Downstream of the fermenters is a biogas treatment system that feeds 5,000 cubic meters per hour or 43 to 46 million cubic meters per year of biomethane (corresponding to an energy of approx. 50  GWh ) into the 25-bar natural gas network. 400,000 t of substrate are required annually . The main substrate used is maize , but also whole- crop silage , grain and grass silage . 80,000 t of substrate can be stored in an interim storage facility consisting of several silos.
