The Biokovo Mountains are a section of the Dinaric Coast Mountains in southern Croatia . It lies roughly between Omiš and the mouth of the Neretva in the Central Dalmatia region .

The majority of the mountain range is under state protection as the Biokovo Nature Park .

After a narrow coastal strip on the Adriatic , the limestone mountains rise steeply and with little vegetation to heights of over 1700 meters. The side facing away from the Adriatic Sea has sparse vegetation with isolated forest islands.

The highest peak is the Sveti Jure with 1762 meters. The Biokovo Mountains are extremely arid, only in areas where the limestone meets flysch zones, springs emerge that enable barren grazing. The coastal strip is developed for tourism, the center is the tourist resort Makarska on the Makarska Riviera called Adriatic coastline. The Biokovo Mountains are designated as a Croatian nature park.
