The Biomedical Informatics Research Network (BIRN) is a national research network for biomedicine in the USA . Among other things, a grid is operated for research . This is used to make calculations and simulations (e.g. of human brain waves ) in the field of biomedicine . By sharing the information and computing capacity of such renowned universities , BIRN is a leader in the field of biomedicine.
