Bion from Abdera
Bion von Abdera ( ancient Greek Βίων ) was a Greek mathematician and philosopher from Abdera . His life dates are uncertain.
After Diogenes Laertios, Bion was a pupil of Democritus , who also came from Abdera, and wrote in both Ionic and Attic Greek . He was the first to conclude from the dependence of the length of the day on the season and the geographical latitude that there is a place where day and night lasted six months each.
Strabon mentions an astronomer Bion, who was considered an expert on winds. Most likely it is referring to the same person.
