The debut album One Day , released in 2007, also received awards, but remained a local success. With the follow-up album Universes , released just a year later , they made their breakthrough throughout Australia and reached number 3 on the album charts.

Birds of Tokyo were able to finally establish themselves in 2010 with the third album, which bears the band name as its title. With number 2, they again achieved a top position in the Australian album charts and platinum status with over 70,000 albums sold . In addition, they had a single hit with Plans , which even made it into the New Zealand charts. Hayley Mary, front woman of the Jezabels , supported her vocals on Discoloured on her album Brace .
