Birger Kollmeier

Birger Kollmeier (born July 20, 1958 in Minden ) is a German hearing researcher. He is a professor at the Institute for Physics at the University of Oldenburg .

The current research relates to a basic understanding of the auditory system, the development of audiometric measurement methods and rehabilitation with hearing aids .

Life

After high school at Söderblom-Gymnasium Espelkamp in 1976 studied Kollmeier Physics and from 1977 also human medicine at the University of Göttingen . After completing his doctorate with Manfred Schroeder in 1986, he worked as a university assistant at the Third Physics Institute in Göttingen . During this time, he received his doctorate in 1989 med. with Ulrich Eysholdt and in 1990 the habilitation in experimental physics .

On April 1, 1993, he accepted a professorship for applied physics at the University of Oldenburg . In Oldenburg he has initiated since an extensive network of Hörforschungseinrichtungen where next to the University and the University of Applied Sciences Oldenburg also clinics in Oldenburg are involved.

In 2001 he was awarded the Technical Communication Research Prize for his research on hearing-friendly speech processing, the Lower Saxony Science Prize in 2011 and the International Award of the American Academy of Audiology and the German Future Prize in 2012 .

Kollmeier is married and has four children.
