Birgit Hildebrand

Birgit Hildebrand (born January 2, 1944 in Regensburg ) is a German translator .

Life

After studying philology in Tübingen and Munich, she worked as a lecturer in the German department at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . Since 1989 she has been a freelance translator of modern Greek literature, especially of contemporary prose (including Mimika Cranaki , Angela Dimitrakaki , Christos Ikonomou , Amanda Michalopoulou , Nikos Panajotopoulos , Soti Triantafillou , Alki Zei ). She also translates poetry and theater texts. Hildebrand lives in Berlin. She teaches literary translation.

In 2001 she was awarded the German-Greek Translator Prize at the Frankfurt Book Fair for the translation of Pavlos Matessi's “Daughter of the Dog ”.
