Birgit Nordin

Birgit Nordin (born February 22, 1934 in Sangis ) is a Swedish opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

After finishing school in Haparanda, Nordin studied from 1956 to 1958 at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Britta von Vegesack , and later with Lina Pagliughi in Italy. From 1958 to 1986 she was engaged at the Royal Opera in Stockholm .

In 1973 she was appointed Swedish court singer.

She became known to a wider audience in 1975 in Ingmar Bergman's film adaptation of The Magic Flute as Queen of the Night.

She was married to the bass-baritone Jerker Arvidson (1939-2007).
