List of stumbling blocks in Lithuania
The list of stumbling blocks in Lithuania lists all the stumbling blocks that have been laid in Lithuania . The stumbling blocks are usually in front of the last self-chosen place of residence of the victim and remind of the fate of the people who were murdered, deported, expelled or driven to suicide by the National Socialists .
The Stolpersteine were designed by the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig and are usually laid by himself. The first relocations in Lithuania took place in 2016.

Lili Leja Šemiavičiūtė was born on January 2, 1931 as the daughter of Lejba Šemiavičius (see below) and Chaja. Shochot (see above) born. She had a brother, Mikhael, went to school and, after the Germans attacked Lithuania, her parents sent her to live with her uncle and aunt in Bezdonys . They hoped the daughter would be safe there. In 1943 there was a serious incident there. When Jewish workers who feared being shot refused to leave a barrack, the Gestapo opened fire, fired machine guns and threw grenades into the barracks. The people who were inside caught fire. Later, when the murder site was cleared, the body of 12-year-old Leja was also discovered.
Her mother was shot in one of the Ponary massacres , her father died sick and exhausted in a concentration camp in Estonia. Only her brother could survive. He sent numerous death reports to Yad Vashem , about close and distant relatives, but also for friends and neighbors. There are also three for his sister. |

Lejba Šemiavičius , also Leyb Shemevich , was born in 1889. In the interwar period, the family built a brewery, a wine shop and a flour mill. The companies were hit hard by the Great Depression in 1929 and had to close. The brothers Leyb and Jeremias then started renting out apartments. He himself lived with his wife Chaya geb. Shochot (see above), the daughter Lili Leja (see above) and the son Mikhael in the house in front of which the stumbling blocks were laid. It belonged to his brother. After the conquest of Lithuania by the Nazi regime, the daughter Leja was sent to live with her uncle and aunt in Bezdonys , because her parents hoped she would be safe there. The parents had to live in the Vilnius ghetto. Three of the four family members were murdered by the Nazi regime in 1943, Lejba Šemiavičius in a concentration camp in Estonia, his wife in one of the Ponary massacres and their daughter in Bezdonys.
Son Mikhael survived, looked in vain for family photos, tried to reconstruct the fate of his family. He published a book about it. |
